One of the most recent additions to Glasgow’s Chinese restaurants, Chow manages pretty successfully to avoid the usual pitfalls. It’s small, compact yet cosy, with clean, cool minimal decor and the service is unhurried and helpful. There is a strict no smoking policy, however it’s worth enduring a few fag-free hours because the food is quite simply superb. The Crispy Seaweed comes highly recommended as do the seasonal specials which are pricier than the main menu but well worth the extra expense.

Part of the growing number of bars cum restaurants, Strata boasts a menu it can be proud of. In a setting not dissimilar to the airport lounge in 2001, the stylish interior is almost as stylish as much of the cliéntèle. As pre-theatre menus go, this could hardly be more convenient. Attached to the Tron Theatre, the restaurant only serves to enhance the building’s reputation. Large portions and an impressive wine list go a long way in endearing the diner to this eatery, as do the impressive array of bar snacks in the adjacent café bar. Don’t leave it until you visit the theatre to go.

Relaxed dining Greek style in this Charing Cross restaurant. Small and intimate, service can be a bit on the slow side but the food more than makes up for it. Price-wise it’s mid-range with starters around £3.00-£4.00 and main courses from around £8.00. Antoniou’s also holds regular Greek dancing nights, make sure you book a table and enjoy a real Greek experience.

Stylish, with that obvious love theme. Kama Sutra belongs to the Harlequin Group of Indian restaurants. An à la carte menu is also available and service is quick and efficient.

A bit off the beaten track, but well worth the trek. Colonial surroundings and superior food can be found at the end of the driveway in this refurbished Polo club. A little pricier than your run of the mill Indian restaurant, but then again, this is not your run of the mill Indian restaurant.

This large and luxurious restaurant specialises in Moghuli cuisine and is one of the city centre’s most popular eating places. Just off Charing Cross, it’s extremely handy for both the West End and the city centre.

Worth visiting alone, for the bizarre sight of Indian waiters serving your meal whilst wearing kilts. The range of curries spreads from the extremely mild to that of nuclear strength. It also boasts an exceptionally large vegetarian menu. Busy at lunchtime, however.

With a reputation spreading faster than a virus, Shimla Pinks (the Indian version of a Sloane Ranger) is one of the city’s best-loved restaurants. With chrome finishing and extremely helpful waiting staff, there are two distinct eating areas. Ask to be seated in the Blue Room - it’s no more expensive but looks like it should be!

Run by two Irish sisters (that’s what the name means in Gaelic), this snug eatery perches on top of Jinty McGuinty’s in Ashton Lane. Not immediately noticeable, it’s worth searching for as we’ve never heard a bad word said about it. Among the West End’s more popular venues.

If you can find your way around the multi-bar complex without a map, you’re doing well and probably in need of some sustenance after trekking to the toilets. Decked out with the usual Irish theme bar accoutrements, the food is basic, cheap and does its job adequately. It won’t win any Michelin stars but it can’t be beaten for convenience and its central locale.

Bongusto must be one of the most visually stunning restaurants in the city. Newly opened, the menu is extensive offering excellent choice at value for money prices. Make sure you book a table on the mezzanine floor where you can watch all the activity in the bar area.

An intimate two level restaurant, Antipasti is always busy and we’d advise you book a table whether you’re popping in for lunch or dinner. One in a chain of Di Maggio’s restaurants dotted across the city. The Royal Exchange Square restaurant is always busy and can sometimes become a bit cramped at weekends. A welcome addition to the DI Maggio’s chain in an ideal position for a pre-theatre meal or a welcome respite from the shops.
